چکیده

Morphological analyzers (MA) are automated systems that (1) derive the root word of a transformed word, (2) identify the affixes used and (3) identify the change in semantics after the word transformation. MAs are used in the field of natural language processing and information retrieval systems to reduce the size of its word dictionary or lexicon, while being able to efficiently analyze the syntax and semantics of a word. The MA presented here is part of a bi-directional English-Filipino machine translation system. It uses an example-based approach to address the limited lexical resources and incomplete morphology rules in Filipino. It improves the Wicentowski’s Word Frame model by learning morphology rules from examples to handle the morphological phenomena of prefixation, suffixation, circumfixation, internal vowel changes, infixation, and partial and whole word reduplication. ____

Use of the WordFrame Model in Learning the Filipino Morphological Process

This paper presents the results of the adoption of the WordFrame model to the Filipino language. The WordFrame model, developed by Richard Wicentowski, is a robust multi-lingual supervised learning algorithm that learns a language’s morphological process. This algorithm models a word as a seven-way split, namely, the canonical prefix, the point-ofprefixation change, common substrings, vowel cha...

Multilingual Noise-Robust Supervised Morphological Analysis using the WordFrame Model

This paper presents the WordFrame model, a noiserobust supervised algorithm capable of inducing morphological analyses for languages which exhibit prefixation, suffixation, and internal vowel shifts. In combination with a näive approach to suffix-based morphology, this algorithm is shown to be remarkably effective across a broad range of languages, including those exhibiting infixation and part...

A Greedy Approach to Unsupervised Grammar Induction for Filipino

Copyright 2008 ABSTRACT This paper discusses the Greedy Merge Model used for an unsupervised grammar induction system for the Filipino language. The approach attempts to address the current state of Philippine linguistic resources, specifically the formal grammars, which are insubstantial for robust analysis. The Greedy Merge Model results show an F1 measure of 69%. Generated grammar rules are ...

Written word recognition by the elementary and advanced level Persian-English bilinguals

According  to  a  basic  prediction  made  by  the  Revised  Hierarchical  Model  (RHM),  at  early  stages  of language  acquisition,  strong  L2-L1  lexical  links  are  formed.  RHM  predicts  that  these  links  weaken with  increasing  proficiency,  although  they  do  not  disappear  even  at  higher  levels  of  language development. To test this prediction, two groups of highly proficie...
